Theatre Wakefield will be offering a 12-week theatre course this fall. With a curriculum designed for young adults between the ages of 16 and 30, the classes will be led by Mary Ellen Maclean, an experienced, award-winning theatre artist whose special focus is on ensemble creation. She recently performed her one-woman show Frankie to a sold-out audience at the TaDa! Festival in May. Do you want to collaborate with other artistic minded young people on developing your performance skills and creating an original theatre piece? No experience is necessary for these classes, but we are looking for a diverse group of young people that are curious, passionate about creation and performing, and collaborative. Mary Ellen has structured the program to provide participants with a process of discovery using improvisation, playfulness, breath and voice work, movement, character development and an opportunity to perform. Depending on what the ensemble’s interests are, guest artists from other disciplines will be invited to work with the group. And, wherever the process of discovery leads you, there’ll be a performance at the Centre Wakefield LaPêche December 10. So, if you want to: • Get to know and collaborate with a diverse group of young adults that share your passion; • Receive personalized, professional theatre training; • Experience new art forms and creative methods; • Perform! …Then this program is for you! Each class will begin at 5:30pm with a check-in and dinner (provided by Theatre Wakefield) followed by a two-hour class from 6:00- 8:00pm. If you are keenly interested to participate and can make a commitment for 12 weeks beginning the week of September 19, please let us know a little bit about yourself and why you would like to be involved by writing us an e-mail to We need to hear from you by August 19. We can only take ten participants so on August 27 we’ll meet as a group for a two-hour workshop to make our selection and you’ll get a sense of the program. The program costs $120 for 12 weeks, although none of those chosen will be turned away for lack of funds so don’t let that be a deterrent.
