Seeking a Project Manager for 100 Mile Arts Network

Part-time Contract Position: June 1, 2020 – September 30, 2021

 

Overview and Context:                       

The 100 Mile Arts Network of Theatre Wakefield (TW) is a multi-year initiative involving three of the MRCs of Western Quebec: des Collines de l’Outaouais; la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau; le Pontiac.

 

Through this project, TW has made a long-term commitment to building audiences throughout these regions and bringing cultural events to places that have had limited access in the past. This is about building community more than “bums in seats.” We’re committed to developing cultural awareness and interest in the arts with a particular focus on youth development and participation. We’re doing this by:

 

  1. Providing artists and artistic groups with touring support in western Québec and beyond;

  2. Strengthening the arts presentation capacity in community groups of western Québec;

  3. Building governance structures, partnerships and collaboration mechanisms that will assure stability and appropriate growth of the Network over time.

 

TW has received funding from Canadian Heritage for the project’s third year; however, with touring shut down in the province for at least 2020, TW’s board is working on how to adapt its objectives for this project to suit the new environment. We expect a number of our activities to go digital, and are looking into establishing a sound/video studio with streaming/recording capabilities for the artistic community.

 

Reporting to the Board of Theatre Wakefield, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage all aspects of the 100 Mile Arts Network project.

  • Recruit artists and venues to join the Network

  • Supervise and evaluate contract staff

  • Help artists find venues to exhibit/perform their work, develop arts presenters in the region

  • Work with artists to digitize their work in the event TW is able to offer an equipped sound/video studio

  • Create and nurture relationships with all stakeholders: community partners (presenters and artists), regional government funders, local and regional sponsors and municipalities.

  • Support development of funding proposals for network and community partners.

  • Report to the TW board’s monthly meetings with information on progress, accomplishments, challenges and all information required to ensure the success of the project.

 

Candidate Qualifications:

 

A background in the arts (amateur or professional).

Knowledge of the geographic region the 100 Mile Arts Network covers.

 

Language: Strong English speaking and writing skills; functional French.

 

 

Experience:

  • Touring in a rural environment

  • Networking across groups from various diverse communities

  • Managing not-for-profit budgets and scheduling

  • Managing human resources including recruitment, supervision, mentoring, evaluation

  • Working with and supporting the development of volunteers

 

Skills

  • Excellent, clear communication – public speaking, written, listening

  • Ability to juggle several competing priorities

  • Consensus building, non-adversarial

  • Take initiative, be self-directed, flexible, creative, adaptable, collegial, a team player

 

Will Need

  • Car and valid driver’s license

  • Computer, cell phone, access to high speed internet

  • To be available some evenings and weekends, as required.
