SOS Summer Film Camp 2014

Donations are over $6,000. Thank you to all our supporters! Theatre Wakefield wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all the community supporters of our SOS Summer Film Camp 2014 fundraising campaign. We are absolutely thrilled that we’ve been able reach our goal of raising $6,000 for this year’s Film Camp in just four weeks! Special thanks to our MNA, Mme Stéphanie Vallée and her staff for their assistance in obtaining an emergency grant, and to the Canadian Media Production Association for their generous support of our future media professionals!

Wakefield’s unique Summer Film Camp for Youth needed your help and you came to the rescue.

As a direct result of the PQ’s call of the election in the spring of this year, the Quebec Ministry of Culture was obliged to abruptly and indefinitely suspend its funding program entitled “Film Education for Youth”. In previous years, this funding ensured that the camp was affordable to all families in the community, and enabled parents to enroll more than one teenager from their family. (We also receive a special donation from a community member each year that allows us to offer single mothers a “scholarship” rate so they can afford to enroll their son or daughter.)

According to Rooney Productions , which has successfully delivered the camp to hundreds of teen-aged participants over the last five years, there is absolutely no question of cancelling it this year. Parents’ registrations have ensured full enrollment for the sixth year in a row. Theatre Wakefield has been looking for alternative sources of support until the “Film Education for Youth” funding program is re-activated. Various film camp “graduates” have gone on to star in our main-stage productions, done technical work on shows, enrolled into university theatre programs, taken summer jobs with Theatre Wakefield programs, and served as community volunteers, including as members of our own Board!

Don’t let politics ruin a great community program for our youth! Your contribution goes towards ensuring another successful season of Summer Film Camp. Thanks you for your generosity and support.
